Hello! Hello! Happy #BorderMakerMonday! It’s my very first #BorderMakerMonday post as part of the Creative Life Scrapbooking Design Team! Pop on over to view the page and give it a ‘like’! Don’t forget to ‘like’ the Creative Life Scrapbooking Page too – you’ll get ideas every Monday and Friday plus Pyjama Party Crops, Blog Hops and more!
I must confess, I am a little nervous about my first post as I rarely use ‘traditional borders’ in my designs, instead, I tend to incorporate the border into the design of the layout. You will find my designs usually are simple to focus on the photos and stories and usually incorporate Foam Squares and Gems! I hope you enjoy this first design!
So, for this layout, I used my favourite collection by Creative Memories, Harvest Delight, along with some Navy Cardstock and White Sans Serif ABC/123 Stickers. I incorporated the use of the Majestic Mountains Border punch and the Custom Cutting System with Circle Pattern to mimic the skyline in the photos to create a border at the top of the photo grouping. I then used the Cable Chain at the bottom of the photo grouping to mimic the shape of the dock and kayak in the photos (wasn’t it thoughtful of the kayaker, who we didn’t know, to pass by right at the perfect photo op moment!). I then added a title, a few stickers and embellishments (note the Foam Squares and Gem) and a journal box.
To create the top border:
STEP 1: Use the Custom Cutting System to create a half-circle in the desired size, double matt if desired. I used the light blue stripe and the white/orange geometric paper from the Harvest Delight Collection. Adhere to the center of the layout at the top of the photo grouping.
STEP 2: Cut two Majestic Mountain borders, one from Navy Cardstock and one from the blue stripe in the Harvest Delight Collection, keeping the cut-out pieces. I cut the middle mountain out to leave room for the ‘sun’.
STEP 3: Use repositionable adhesive to adhere the light blue paper mountain first overlapping the sun, then layer the Navy mountain on top, slightly below.
STEP 4: Apply the Repositionable Adhesive on top of the mountains to fill in the cut-out pieces. Adhere the cut-out pieces. Gently rub off the excess dots.
STEP 5: to complete the layout cut a Cable Chain Border Maker strip from Navy Cardstock and adhere to the bottom of the photo grouping. Add a sticker strip on top, use Foam Squares to adhere embellishments, Use the Multipurpose Tool to adhere ABC/123 stickers.
So, what do you think? Can you see how you can incorporate border elements into your layout design without it being a stand-alone border?
Happy, Happy Scrapbooking!
